Preface
وَمَا تَوفِیِقیی الّٰا باللہ
“And it’s not my ability except-from Allah.”
The Holy Qur’an is a rare and great miracle of the Holy Prophet, the master of two worlds, Muhammad Mustafa (SAWS). Although it was revealed in Arabic for teaching and preaching of people of Arab, nevertheless, this Holy Scripture is a direct source for the whole universe to link-up with and have an access to The Almighty. Acquiring basic knowledge of Arabic language is the first step to comprehend Qur’an –e- Kareem. Understanding The Qur’an is the prime duty and an obligation of every sane believer. One can grasp the message of Allah Al- Mighty only by understanding “The Book” word by word. Then authentic manuscripts of translation and interpretation by famous and well-known scholars of Islam should be read to reach the stages of explanations and interpretations.
The compiler had an opportunity to get an early education in Saudi Arabia by the grace of God Almighty, which resulted in a reasonable comprehension of Arabic language at an early age. This was followed by study of the Translations and Interpretations of Holy Quran by great scholars of Islam which further helped in subsiding the of fear foreign language. The compiler had actually started to endorse this manuscript titled Al Qur’an al-Mamdooh for her children; with an aim to make reading and understanding of The Holy Book easier for them. But later on, with Allah’s Kind Will, it prospered into an enduring project. Following series of this blessed project are under process; with an utmost dream of the compiler to complete this sequence during her life(God Willing)

Urdu and English Languages |
With the Grace of God, The Lord of whole universe, first part, i-e The Al-Qur’an Al-Mamdooh (Dictionary) is presented herewith. compiler’s knowledge is very limited, yet- it’s her substantial belief that this is the first dictionary of its kind, in which root words of Al-Qur’an, their meanings, Qur’anic derivatives and references (Surah:Verse number) have been penned in a very simple manner.(Allah Known The Best واللہۡ اعلم)
Knowledge of Qur’an-e-Kareem exceeds innumerable oceans. Owing to human nature, compiler’s meager effort can never be declared free of err. Its prayed that The Lord of mankind may Grant levels of acceptance to this book, and forgive any errors of omission.
Urdu is a unique blend of miscellaneous language that includes words from Arabic. Arabic is quite easy to comprehend for those who speak and read Urdu, and thus it’s not difficult for them to understand Al-Qur'an. Kindly keep these points in mind while reading this dictionary.
|
Arabic words are usually derived from three or four letters, which are called the base, substance or source of the words. The relationship between matter and source is very simple. For example: |
||
|
"لقی" means; To face, To put in front, To find. ( Derivatives:مآخذ) لَقُوا = (They) Meet فَتَلَقّٰی = Then get it مُلٰقُوا = (They)Are going to meet اَلق = Put in front |
"عبد"- means; Man/ Slave
( Derivatives:مآخذ) نَعبُد = We worship اَعبُدُوا= (They) Worship عِبَادِه = His men/ slaves عِبَادَتِہ = His worship |
"امن" means; Peace, security and faith. ( Derivatives:مآخذ) يُؤمِنُون= Those who believe اٰمَنَّا= We believe اِیمَانِھِم= Their faith مُؤمِن= Believer |
|
Similarly, some alphabets have individual meanings; once connected to another word, they add up to that word with own meanings. For example: |
||
|
" ف " means; Then, thus, or else.
( Derivatives:مآخذ) فَزَادَهُم = Thus increased them فَاَخرِج = So he went out فَاتُوا = Then will be given فَسَبِّح = So glorify |
" ب " means; From, on, of, that, because, with. ( Derivatives:مآخذ) بِسمِ اللّٰه= By the name of Allah بِاللہ = In/ on Allah بَا لاَخِرَةِ = In hereafter بِصَبر = With patience |
"أ" means; What
( Derivatives:مآخذ) ُنُؤمِن = Shall we believe? تَتَامَرُون = Do you order? ألَم = Does not? أَفَلَا= Will then not |
The details of the columns in the dictionary are as follows:
First column: Number count, to make reference easier.
Second column: Root word / alphabet (base/ source). Alphabets are conjoined as words so that readers can read with consistency. Some important proper nouns (names of the Prophets AS etc. are also endorsed in this column.
Third column: Meanings of root words / alphabets. (Especially; meanings given in the Holy Qur’an). Names of the Surahs derived from pertinent root words/ alphabets are also shown.
Fourth Column: Few derivatives of every root words as mentioned in Al-Qur,an.
Fifth column: The first reference of any root word which has appeared in The Holy Qur'an; (Surah No: Verse No) For example:
|
(1:1) = Surah Al-Fatiha:Verse 1 |
(2:23)=Surah Al-Baqarah: Verse 23 |
(113:5)=Surah Al-Falaq:Verse 5 |
Complete list of sources and references, being innumerable, would have exceeded the scope of this book. Therefore, limited derivatives and first reference to every root-word have been given. It is hoped that these sources and references will help to understand interrelationship between root-words and derivatives. (God-Willing)
The compiler took guidance from these important books in compiling this dictionary. May Allah Almighty exalt these teachers in this world and hereafter. Amen
